How To Make A Coming Soon Page In Squarespace (2025)

Whether you’re building a brand new Squarespace website or making changes to your existing one, you may want to put a coming soon page up! Keep reading this article to find out why coming soon pages are so great, and two different styles/ways to set them up!

Why You Need A Squarespace Coming Soon Page

A Coming Soon or Under Construction page is an great tool for any website that is in development. Instead of leaving visitors confused or encountering unfinished content, a well-crafted and well-designed page serves as a placeholder that helps your business out! Rather than confusion, visitors will be greeted with a completed page that explains that a new website is coming soon, and links to other social links.

Prevents Visitors from Checking Out Mis-Matched Content

When your website is under construction, the last thing you want is for visitors to see broken pages, unfinished designs, or missing information. On Squarespace, when you change the colours and fonts, they change on every single page!! This is a great thing, but sometimes these changes need tweaking and more work.

Builds Anticipation and Excitement for Your Launch

A Coming Soon page allows you to generate some excitement before your official launch or relaunch! With a custom coming soon page, you’re able to add whatever you want to the page and the design is totally up to you! Adding a countdown timer or a launch date can also add to the hype!

Helps Grow Your Email List

Coming soon pages are a perfect opportunity to grow your mailing list by encouraging them to subscribe for updates. Adding an email signup form helps you build a mailing list, so you can notify potential customers when your website is live, share exclusive previews, and even offer early access or promos.

Introduces Your Brand to Potential Customers

Even if your full website isn’t ready, your Coming Soon page can establish a strong brand presence. By including your logo, tagline, and a short description of what’s coming, visitors can get a sense of your business and what to expect.

Now that we know why Coming Soon pages are so important, let’s dive into the 2 top methods for creating them in Squarespace.

Method 1: Squarespace Lock Screen Website

The first method isn’t too customizable, but is a great option if you need to make a few quick edits and don’t want any visitors! This method is also really quick to set up, but doesn’t allow for a lot of the customization you can get with method 2!

  • On Squarespace, navigate to Pages, scroll to the bottom, and click System Pages

  • Click Lock Screen

Here, you will see a bunch of templated options for Lock Screen pages! We recommend sticking with the first template you see with the lock symbol and password field. On the left side, you’ll see some more customization options:

  • Branding & Text will allow you to add in your business’ logo, a heading, and body text.

  • Media will allow you to add a background image or video.

  • Style will allow you to adjust all colours and fonts!

Have your Lock Screen page all set up? Here’s how we can take it live on your website.

  • Go out of the Lock Screen page and keep going back on the left side bar until you can’t anymore!

  • Navigate to the bottom left side of the screen and click the gear icon

  • Click Site Availability

  • Click Password Protected and set a password

Your Lock Screen Coming Soon page is now live! When you’re ready for the full site to go live, simply return to that Site Availability section and switch it over to Public!

Method 2: The In-Depth Squarespace Coming Soon Page

The second method for creating a coming soon page is essentially creating a normal page, customizing it with “coming soon” copy, setting it to the Homepage of your website, and disabling all other pages! Let’s dive in:

Design & Set Up Of Your Custom Squarespace Coming Soon Page

  • Under Pages, click + to create a new page and name it Coming Soon

  • Once you see the page on the left side, click the gear icon

  • When the page pop-up appears, click Navigation on the left side menu

  • Toggle off both Show Header and Show Footer

Now we have a beautiful blank page without a header and a footer. A true clean slate! Now, you can edit this page just as you would a normal page to set up a completely custom Coming Soon page.

We’d recommend to start with changing the fonts and colours if you’re doing any major updates. Once your global elements are set, you can start by adding in your logo, a text box that says “coming soon” or something along those lines, buttons to your social media accounts or email, and more! Usually, we keep these pretty simple, but you can truly add anything you want to this page! Make sure to also check your page out on mobile before the next step!

Making Your Coming Soon Page Your “Homepage” on Squarespace

Once your page is fully designed, it’s time to make it the Homepage of your website. This means that when people type in your website domain (for example, figmentbranding.com) they will not see your Home Page, they will see the Coming Soon page!

  • On the Coming Soon page, click the gear

  • Scroll down on the General section and click Set As Homepage

Boom! You’ve done it! Congratulations! When you’re ready to launch your new site, make sure to follow these steps to set the actual Homepage as the Homepage! There’s one other step though!

To make sure people are not able to access your other pages while you are working on them, go into each page and follow these steps:

  • On the pages (one by one), click the gear

  • Under General, toggle off Enable Page

This means that no one will be able to view that page while you are editing everything! Just remember to toggle it back on when its time for launch!

We hope that these methods and steps helped you create your Coming Soon page on Squarespace! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us!
